Medium term coal is, and remains, an important commodity especially for the generation of electricity and for the steel industry in Europe as well as for the Rhenus portfolio. On the German North Sea coast Rhenus Midgard operates seaports for all kinds of goods whereby in Bremen, Nordenham and especially in Wilhelmshaven, the emphasis is on coal.
Coal is not just coal. We distinguish for instance amongst steam coal, PCI coal and coking coal. For us coke and petcoke also rank among the solid fuels and are therefore part of our coal logistics offer.
At our locations in Nordenham and Wilhemshaven we have sufficient storage areas for large quantities of coal. Temperature measurement of the coal during storage is of course part of our service. In Nordenham on the Weser we can process Panmax ships and partly laden Capesize ships with a draft of up to 13,10m fw. Nordenham is well linked to both the German Railway network and the German inland waterway transport network.
We have enlarged Wilhelmshaven to cope with the largest coal vessels. Here on the Jade we can discharge coal ships of up to 250.000 dwt, 330m length, 60m width and a draft of up to 18,50m(60`)sw. In Wilhelmshaven the most modern and efficient wagon loading station in Europe loads the coal directly from the seagoing ships and / or from storage into wagons. The wagons are thereby utilized to a capacity of > 99%.The calibrated bunker weighbridge ensures the exact weight of the rail car coal load. Automatic samplings together with blending facilities for loading the wagons are under design.
